About this experience

Experience a unique and authentic countryside journey through Prambanan with a traditional Gerobak Sapi (bullock cart) ride. This non-mainstream village tour invites you to slow down and enjoy the peaceful rural atmosphere of Central Java while riding comfortably on a wooden cart pulled by gentle cows. The tour offers a nostalgic glimpse into traditional transportation once widely used by local communities.

During the 2–3 hour journey, you will pass through lush rice fields with stunning views of Mount Merapi, visit cultural heritage sites such as Plaosan or Sojiwan Temple, observe daily village activities, and stop by a local UMKM (home industry) to see traditional food production. You will also enjoy a short gamelan session, where you can witness or try playing traditional Javanese musical instruments.

What to expect

Your journey begins with a short briefing before setting off on a relaxing ride through rural roads near Prambanan. As you cycle, you will pass traditional houses, farmlands, and friendly local communities going about their daily activities.

The tour includes short visits to nearby temples such as Sojiwan or Plaosan, where you can admire the historical architecture and take memorable photos. You will also stop at one selected local home industry to learn about traditional snack or herbal drink production.

Throughout the ride, enjoy multiple scenic stops in the rice fields, offering panoramic views and fresh countryside air.
