What to expect

Located in Roppongi Hills, the Mori Art Museum is one of Tokyo's most popular contemporary art museums, hosting a variety of exhibitions in pursuit of "modernity" and "internationality." In addition to large-scale special exhibitions that uniquely introduce global trends in contemporary art, the museum also hosts a variety of programs, including collection exhibitions and film screenings. This contemporary art museum is open to the world, allowing visitors to experience a diverse range of art from around the world, with a focus on the Asia-Pacific region.

"Roppongi Crossing" is a series of exhibitions that Mori Art Museum has been holding every three years since 2004 as a fixed-point observational survey of the Japanese contemporary art scene, co-curated. This eighth edition will feature a curator from the Mori Art Museum as well as two internationally active guest curators from Asia, and will introduce 21 artists, regardless of nationality, who are active in Japan or have roots in Japan but are active overseas, under the theme of "time."

The exhibited works include not only paintings, sculptures, and videos, but also crafts, handicrafts, zines, and even community projects. This exhibition will bring together a diverse and varied range of expressions, including an immersive installation by A.A. Murakami, who has garnered international attention for his work transcending the boundaries of architecture and design; a large, colorful ceramic work by Takuro Kuwata, who has also been garnering attention for his collaborations with overseas fashion houses, exuding stunning sculptural beauty; a new sound piece by Miyu Hosoi, who creates works using her own voice and ambient sounds, including stage productions; and Junko Oki, who has received high praise both at home and abroad in recent years, whose embroidery pieces resemble abstract paintings, created with delicate handwork.

The subtitle of this exhibition, "Time Passes, We Are Eternal," refers to the preciousness and transience of time. Through the various intersections of time that appear in each work, we will reexamine Japanese art from various angles.
