What to expect
The Lake Ashi Cruise is a famous local activity. Lake Ashi is the heart of Hakone tourism, located west of Hakone Town at the southern foot of Mount Komagatake. The lake covers 690 hectares with a depth of 723 meters and a shoreline of 17.5 km. Formed over 4,000 years ago by volcanic activity, it is a crater lake shaped by water erosion. Lake Ashi is backed by Mount Fuji, creating stunning lake-mountain vistas that change with the seasons. The lakeside trails are lined with lush pines and cedars, offering serene scenery. The lake teems with black bass and trout, making it a popular spot for Japanese visitors to enjoy boating, fishing, and swimming. In May, Lake Ashi is surrounded by fresh greenery with crystal-clear waters. From the southern shore, you can see Mount Fuji to the north. The eastern shore features mountains and pirate cruise ships, which have become iconic sights on Lake Ashi.

Things to note
- No age restrictions. Suitable for all ages. Children must be supervised at all times near lakeside areas, boarding points, and during boat activities.
- Very popular during cherry blossom, autumn foliage, and Golden Week. Advance booking for boat tours is strongly recommended.
- Boat operations may be suspended due to bad weather or low visibility. Mount Fuji views are not guaranteed.
- No dress code. Comfortable shoes recommended. Life jackets must be worn as instructed during boat tours.
- Outside food and drinks are allowed in lakeside areas. Dining options are available in nearby Kojiri and Togendai.
